What are we looking for in the lacrimal gland assessment?

During the assessment, health practitioners look for signs of adequate tear production, which might include observing for dry eyes or excessive tearing, and ensuring that tears are being properly drained through the tear ducts. Other factors like size and shape, alignment, color, and presence of lesions, while potentially relevant in a broader ocular examination, do not primarily inform the functional status of the lacrimal gland in the same way that moisture and tear duct function do.
